"What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander." -- Mitt RomneyRecall Mitt Romney's first campaign ad in which he used a clip of Barack Obama in 2008 stating "If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose." Of course, Obama was actually quoting his opponent, John McCain, a fact the ad failed to acknowledge. The lame defense by the Romney campaign was that Obama uttered the words and therefore it was not unfair or misleading to show him saying them
Today, John McCain stumped at a campaign stop for Romney, during which he said "with the leadership and the backing of the American people, President Obama will turn this country around." Sure, he meant to say "President Romney," and later corrected himself, but he did utter those words.
Based on the "Romney Rule of Advertising," Obama can now run ads with this clip and proclaim that McCain believes he, Barack Obama, is the one candidate for president who can turn the country around, assuming, that is, he would want such an endorsement.
