Happy 81st Birthday Sonny Rollins

Sonny Rollins, my favorite saxophone player, was born on September 7, 1930.  As one critic aptly said, Rollins is "the single most enduring tenor saxophonist of the bebop and hard bop era, but also the greatest contemporary jazz saxophonist of them all."

Here he is playing My One and Only Love from 1982

Rollins has recorded so many remarkable albums over the past 60 plus years.  For what it's worth, below the break, is my personal top five:

(Saxophone Colossus (1956), Way Out West (1957), Tenor Madness (1956), The Bridge (1962) and Sonny Rollins Plus Three (1996).)
